VIDEO: NGOs entertain youth and seniors online
Some of the ways to keep students entertained while stuck at home

Taiwan has been on a Level 3 COVID alert or semi-lockdown for over a month. People, both young and old, may be getting a little bored at home. A couple of NGOs have come up with creative ways to keep them entertained and connected with others.

A dance teacher is showing students a hip COVID prevention dance. This college student is teaching young people how to cook. These are just a few ways the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families is keeping young people entertained while they’re at home under Level 3 restrictions.

Some youth can start to have problems when they’re cooped up at home. Some turn night into day, or have a hard time studying. With the whole family at home, there can also be conflicts. The NGO is encouraging young people to keep themselves busy and interact with others.

The NGO’s manager Chang Ju-hsuan says this improves their overall well-being. The interaction with others helps them relieve anxiety.

Senior citizens need to feel connected too. That’s why the Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation provides exercise videos for them. They also give away care packages with coloring sheets, markers, and yoga balls.  The foundation’s Lee Ruo-chi says it's really important for the elderly to have a sense of purpose in life. Exercising and doing artwork is a great way for them to keep active.
