The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) said on Tuesday that the elderly 65 years and older and those in the seventh and eighth priority groups will receive their jabs starting July 1. They will also be free to choose whether to use the AstraZeneca or Moderna vaccine.
Pregnant women have also been put in the sixth priority group and will have the option of choosing between the Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines. The seventh group includes those in charge of national security and those maintaining law and order in society. The eighth group includes those aged 65 and above.
The center also said those who have received the first dose of a vaccine can receive a second vaccination with the same brand if they have reached the recommended time for a second dose.
Meanwhile, as daily COVID cases numbers are declining, officials have been asked whether Level 3 restrictions will be lifted on June 28. The CECC said it would announce on Wednesday if different cities would be subject to different levels of restrictions according to their risk level. High risk areas include Greater Taipei while Keelung, Taoyuan, Miaoli and Changhua are considered mid-risk areas.
Despite the outbreak slowing down, the premier said people should still stay vigilant about wearing masks and practicing social distancing.
