Four hundred and ten thousand doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine will arrive in Taiwan on Wednesday. That’s according to Health Minister Chen Shih-chung, who says the shipment of vaccines is coming directly from the US vaccine manufacturer.
Taiwan has signed an agreement with the American pharmaceutical company to buy 5.05 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine. So far, Taiwan has only received 390,000 doses from that order.
But Taiwan has received Moderna vaccine doses from other sources. Earlier this month, the US donated 2.5 million doses of the vaccine to Taiwan, more than tripling its previous donation pledge.
To date, Taiwan has received 4,855,100 COVID-19 vaccine doses. Officials estimate the country will need at least 30 million doses to reach herd immunity.
