Lithuania announced Thursday that it plans to establish a representative office in Taiwan to strengthen trade ties between the two countries. That’s after the Baltic country recently pledged to donate 20,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan.
Lithuania’s foreign minister, Gabrielius Landsbergis, held a virtual meeting with the country’s 62 diplomatic missions around the world on Wednesday. He emphasized the importance of developing foreign markets and strengthening trade with countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry said Friday that it welcomes closer ties with Lithuania. Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Joanne Ou said that Taiwan is always open to interacting with countries around the world that share its values.
