Taiwan reported 28 new local cases of COVID-19 on Monday. That’s the first time that the number has dropped below 30 since May 14. There were also three new imported cases. Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says the relatively small number of new cases is a sign that the outbreak is continuing to ease.

The addition of one more death from the virus brings the death toll from the beginning of the pandemic to 689.

Of the 28 new local cases announced on Monday, nine were men and 19 were women. They began experiencing symptoms between June 19 and July 4.

The Monday totals (by city/county) are as follows:

Taipei City: 15

New Taipei City: 5

Taoyuan City: 3

Miaoli County: 2

Hsinchu County: 1

Keelung City: 1

Pingtung County: 1

Of the 28 new local cases announced on Monday, 13 tested positive while in quarantine.

Nearly 14,000 people have undergone quarantine in the current outbreak, and so far, nearly 80% (79.8%) of them have been released.
