Taiwan has received a third donation of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine from Japan. The 970,000 donated vaccine doses arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport on Thursday afternoon.
Japan donated 1.24 million doses in early June and 1.13 million doses in early July. The arrival of a third shipment of doses Thursday brings the total number of vaccine doses Japan has donated to Taiwan so far up to 3.34 million.
On Thursday, the foreign ministry thanked Japan for its assistance at a time when Taiwan is facing a shortage of vaccines.
Meanwhile, Premier Su Tseng-chang said 550,000 additional doses of AstraZeneca vaccine and 350,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine purchased by the government also arrived Thursday. The arrival of these doses brings Taiwan’s COVID vaccine arsenal up to nearly nine million doses.
