Premier Su Tseng-chang says the government will conduct a rolling review of COVID-19 restrictions to ensure the outbreak remains under control. The premier’s words on Monday come as the nation prepares to lower the COVID-19 alert to Level 2 starting Tuesday.
Currently, indoor gatherings are limited to five people at a time, while outdoor gatherings can have a maximum of 10 people. Starting Tuesday, the caps will be raised to 50 people indoors and 100 outdoors. People still have to wear masks at all times outside their homes.
Premier Su says some local governments are adopting more stringent disease prevention requirements for venues to reopen. He is also calling all ministries to follow the guidelines set out by the Central Epidemic Command Center. Su says they should keep in close contact with local governments.
Su is also calling on the Central Epidemic Command Center to keep track of potential super spreader events.
Meanwhile, the Central Epidemic Command Center says Taiwan is well equipped to deal with future outbreaks. It says that only 10% of COVID-19 hospital beds are occupied nationwide. Government quarantine centres also have room, with less than a quarter of beds filled. The command center says that there is also an ample supply of rubbing alcohol, masks and protective gear.
