Taiwanese Legislature President Yu Shyi-kun has called on democratic nations in the Indo-Pacific region to join together in sending a warning to China. His words came at the opening of a virtual conference of Taiwanese lawmakers and pro-Taiwan lawmakers in the US and Japan.

Yu said that democratic nations in the region must jointly warn China that they will recognize Taiwan outright if China uses force to unilaterally change the cross-strait status quo.

Yu also thanked the US and Japan for donating doses of COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan as Taiwan deals with a COVID outbreak and faces Chinese efforts to block vaccines getting to Taiwan.

He also said that Taiwan is confident it can defend its democracy and freedom as well as the welfare of its people. He said that Taiwan will work with democratic nations in the Indo-Pacific region to ensure regional stability and security. In addition, he said he hopes to see Taiwan included in the four-way security dialogue mechanism shared by the US, Japan, Australia, and India.
