A university home to a number of Taiwan's leading athletes is welcoming its new principal this term. Education Minister Pan Wen-chung was on hand on Tuesday to welcome Hsu Kuang-lien as the new head of the National Taiwan University of Sport.

The university, based in central Taiwan, has hosted a number of the country's current Olympic athletes. That includes Yang Yung-wei, who won a silver medal in judo to take home Taiwan's first ever medal in the sport.

Education Minister Pan says there are many incredible Taiwanese athletes at the Tokyo Olympics and he is thrilled that so many of them have trained at NTUS.

Pan has also paid tribute to outgoing principal Lin Hua-wei, saying Lin has accomplished many things during his two terms. They include building a new indoor stadium, adding doctoral classes, and creating a university sports alliance.

Pan says it is important to uphold the quality of education and support for students during these changes. He says he is excited to welcome in the new term with Principal Hsu's leadership.

Pan says the Ministry of Education is proud to support all universities with plans to further strengthen their education systems. This way, Taiwan's universities will continue to produce talented individuals, both on and off the sports fields.
