Vice President William Lai has met with Australia’s new representative to Taiwan, Jenny Bloomfield. During the meeting, Lai said he hopes to see Taiwan and Australia continue their close cooperation in maintaining stability in the Asia-Pacific as well as their close trade ties.

Lai said that in addition to being partners in the Indo-Pacific region, Taiwan and Australia have trade ties that provide for the needs of both sides. He said that Taiwan is Australia’s sixth-biggest export market and 14th-largest trade partner overall, while Australia is Taiwan’s eleventh-biggest trade partner.

He said that Taiwan needs Australia's energy sources and mineral products, and that Australian hydrogen power will be important to Taiwan’s future as it strives to cut carbon emissions.
