Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has welcomed the addition of the cross-party Canada-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group to the Formosa Club in Europe.
The Formosa Club is an organization made up of European lawmakers from across party lines who work to enhance relations between Taiwan and Europe.
Wu said the club has seen more than 130 parliamentarians join as members since it was established in 2019. The club now has chapters in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Indo-Pacific region.
Meanwhile, Wu said that more than 1,000 parliamentarians penned a letter to the WHO in May advocating for Taiwan’s participation in the World Health Assembly this year. He said he was glad to see more countries around the world showing support for Taiwan. The foreign minister said Taiwan will continue to work with partners that share its values to promote human rights, democracy, and rule of law.
