Taiwan’s average life expectancy in 2020 hit 81.3 years, the highest yet. According to the interior ministry, men in Taiwan live 78.1 years while women live 84.7 years on average — 7.9 and 9.7 years above the global averages, respectively .
Among Taiwan’s six major municipalities, Taipei City had the highest average life expectancy, at 84.1 years. From there, average life expectancies trend downwards the further south one goes.
The interior ministry attributed the new high in life expectancy to advancements in medicine, quality-of-life improvements, better food safety, and more active lifestyles.
Taiwan’s life expectancy was 79.2 years in 2010 and has risen steadily since.
