Over half a million AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses have arrived in Taiwan. In a Facebook post on Thursday morning, Premier Su Tseng-chang said the shipment is part of an order of 10 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses by Taiwan’s government.
The plane carrying 520,000 doses took off from Thailand around noon and landed in Taiwan around three hours later.
Premier Su says the latest delivery of doses will take the total number of vaccine doses Taiwan has received past 10 million. He says Taiwan has done well to get so many doses in such a short time.
Su also says Taiwan has given more than a third of the population at least one vaccine dose. It has also cut daily COVID-19 case numbers down from a high of over 500 to single digits. Su says those are both significant achievements.
Su is thanking epidemic prevention workers, diplomats, and all Taiwanese people for their cooperation and assistance fighting COVID-19.
