The foreign ministry has thanked the members of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue for including peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait in the agenda for their most recent meeting.

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, often shortened to “the Quad”, is a strategic dialogue between the United States, Japan, Australia, and India. Senior officials from these four countries held their most recent meeting under the aegis of “the Quad” earlier in the week, discussing ways to advance a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

While thanking the four countries for their attention to Taiwan on Friday, the foreign ministry also highlighted Taiwan’s importance to the wider region. Ministry Spokesperson Joanne Ou said that Taiwan sits at a key point in the “first island chain” off the Asian mainland, and that Taiwan is also a key player in maintaining the stability and prosperity of the wider region.

Ou spoke about US support for Taiwan in particular, citing the Biden administration’s repeated reaffirmations of US backing for Taiwan.
