The total output value of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry looks set to grow by almost a quarter by the end of 2021. That’s according to new estimates from Taiwanese researchers at the Industrial Technology Research Institute.

Taiwan’s semiconductor sector posted a quarterly growth rate of 9% in the second quarter of 2021, far exceeding analysts’ expectations. The Industrial Technology Research Institute now says it expects the total output value for 2021 to break NT$4 trillion (US$140 billion). That’s an increase of 24.7% on the previous year.

A number of prominent companies in Taiwan’s semiconductor industry have seen revenue rise to record levels. These include TSMC, UMC, Vanguard International, MediaTek, and Realtek.

The research institute says companies working in integrated circuit design have seen the biggest rise in output value, posting 17.9% quarterly growth.
