Over 200 tech companies have shown interest in establishing a base in the newest area of the Kaohsiung Software Technology Park. The new area of the park in the southern harbor city is set to open in October.
Taiwan’s government has invested nearly US$360 million in developing the Kaohsiung Software Technology Park, which currently houses over 250 companies. Most of the firms specialize in software, digital content, R&D and design.
The newest area of the park aims to be a hub for R&D in a number of key areas of the tech industry. Those include developments in the so-called “artificial intelligence of things”. The field aims to combine advancements in artificial intelligence with the industry in smart devices.
The new area will also host companies working with smart applications, semiconductor design and digital content.
The park’s newest extension will have an area of 2.45 hectares, and offices will be available only for rent, rather than purchase.
The entire park is 587 hectares and is located near Kaohsiung Harbor and the Kaohsiung Exhibition Center.
The government has established technology parks in different parts of Taiwan to balance industrial development around the island.
