Starting from Monday, people in Taiwan can book appointments to take the Taiwan-made Medigen COVID-19 vaccine. According to the IT company behind the booking system, 42,000 people attempted to register for the vaccine within the first two minutes of its release.
Registration for the sixth round of vaccines is open from Monday until Wednesday at noon. Appointments are available from August 23 to August 29.
The immediate volume of registration was so high that people were temporarily unable to log in to the online system. Trade-Van Information Services Co., the IT company managing bookings, says that this was not due to a system crash. It says that the website needed to restrict the number of people logging in at one time.
Trade Van says that people have continued to register for the vaccine throughout the day. It says now that the initial rush for booking has eased, everything is back to running smoothly.
In addition, Medigen says it has applied for emergency use authorization (EUA) in Paraguay.
Paraguay’s population is around 7 million, and there have been over 456,000 confirmed cases, with over 15,000 deaths.
The Medigen team says that they hope to continue expanding their vaccine to help solve the global shortage crisis.
