Japanese media outlets report that Japan’s Liberal Democratic Party is set to hold a security dialogue with Taiwan’s ruling Democratic Progressive Party.
The reports indicate that the talks could take place as soon as the end of the month. Topics of discussion are expected to include recent Chinese military maneuvers near Taiwan and the disputed Diaoyutai Islands, which Taiwan, Japan, and China all claim.
The foreign ministry says it can’t comment on the talks except to say that it is pleased to see Taiwanese lawmakers deepen their interaction with their counterparts from nations that share Taiwan’s values.
