Taitung County is holding Taiwan’s first Cloud Travel Expo. The online event aims to bring together the south-eastern county’s tour operators and accommodation venues to attract visitors from neighboring countries.

The expo was launched online on Monday and will have daily livestreams from August 25 to August 27.

Taitung usually participates in travel expos in southeast Asian countries in the summer months. This year, however, the COVID-19 pandemic has prevented those expos from taking place.

Taitung County Magistrate Rao Ching-ling said that she hopes people and businesses from a number of countries will enjoy the fun and food from Taitung online. Those countries include Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand.

The online expo features more than 20 Taitung businesses and offers opportunities to buy products made in Taitung. Rao said she hopes the expo will continue to introduce Taitung to the rest of the world and inspire people to come visit when the pandemic subsides.

Taiwan topped Booking.com’s list of the “Most Welcoming Regions on Earth” in 2021. It describes Taitung as “perhaps Taiwan's most unspoiled area”. The website also says “travelers will be amazed by the richness of the diverse ethnic culture”. Taitung is home to many of Taiwan’s indigenous people, including the  Amis, Bunun, Kavalan and Paiwan.
