The new director of the American Institute in Taiwan, Sandra Oudkirk, has met for the first time with Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua. That’s the word from the economics ministry on Tuesday.
The American Institute in Taiwan is the de facto US embassy in Taiwan in the absence of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The ministry says Wang and Oudkirk talked about future cooperation on a more resilient and secure supply chain partnership between the two countries.
The two officials also talked about the support and assistance that they have given to each other since the outbreak of COVID-19. Wang has given her thanks to the United States for its generous donation of COVID-19 vaccines to Taiwan. Oudkirk says that Taiwan donated masks to the United States at a time when medical supplies were becoming scarce worldwide.
The economics ministry says US-Taiwan ties are not only growing stronger but also covering an increasing number of fields. The ministry says ties are strong in areas involving information and communication technology cooperation, semiconductor supply chains, investment and trade.
