Two Chinese anti-submarine aircraft entered Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ) on Thursday. For the first time, these aircraft included a Harbin Z-9 anti-submarine warfare helicopter.
The defense ministry says that the Chinese aircraft flew into the southwestern corner of Taiwan’s ADIZ. The ministry says Taiwan’s air force responded to the incursion by dispatching patrol aircraft and broadcasting radio warnings. It also tracked the Chinese aircraft with land-based anti-aircraft missiles.
This intrusion was one of the many incursions that China has made into Taiwan’s airspace since warming ties between Taiwan and other nations has led to a further souring of cross-strait relations.
