COVID-19 (09/01): Taiwan reports one local case, one death

Taiwan reported one new local case of COVID-19 on Wednesday. The country also reported five more imported cases among people arriving in Taiwan. 

The addition of one more death from the virus brings the death toll from the beginning of the pandemic to 836. The deceased was a man in his sixties with pre-existing health conditions. 

The one new local case announced on Friday was a woman in her sixties. She tested positive while in quarantine, and began experiencing symptoms on August 23. A specific source of transmission is known for the case.

Taiwan also recorded five imported cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday. They include travelers from the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Nicaragua, and the United States.
