Japan announced on Friday that it will donate more AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine doses to Taiwan. The shipment of vaccine doses is set to arrive in Taiwan early this month. It will be Japan’s fourth donation of vaccine doses to Taiwan so far.
Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang has expressed thanks to Japan for its close ties with Taiwan and willingness to provide assistance in times of need. Chang said Japan’s willingness to help Taiwan at a time when the COVID-19 pandemic is still severe and vaccine supplies remain tight shows that the friendship between the two sides is firm.
Chang said that Taiwan believes the two countries can work together to overcome the challenges of the pandemic. He said that Taiwan will continue to deepen its partnership with Japan in order to contribute to peace, stability, and prosperity in the surrounding region.
Meanwhile, Director of the Central Epidemic Command Center Chen Shih-chung said that he will arrange for Japanese nationals residing in Taiwan to receive their vaccines from the newest shipment.
