Taiwan reported two local COVID-19 cases, four imported cases and no deaths on Sunday. The two local cases were members of the same household. Taiwan has seen daily case numbers mostly in the single digits for the past three weeks.
There were also four imported cases that had arrived from Serbia, the United States, Burkina Faso and Japan.
In a recent interview with RTI, Brown Professor of Political Science at Davidson College Shelley Rigger said, "Unlike anybody else, Taiwan has managed to contain and keep COVID from being uncontrollable."
Of the 14,813 cases since May 11, 93% have recovered. Taiwan has seen a total of 16,019 COVID-19 cases and 837 deaths.
The third batch of COVAX vaccines, 410,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines, are arriving on Sunday. Taiwan also received a donation of 400,000 vaccines from Poland on Saturday.
