Taiwan should start receiving weekly deliveries of up to 800,000 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses by the end of September. That’s the word from Foxconn founder Terry Gou, who discussed COVID-19 vaccine procurement in a post on Facebook on Monday.

Gou’s YongLin Charity and Education Foundation is behind a joint donation of 15 million Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses to Taiwan. That figure includes 5 million doses from Gou’s charity, 5 million from tech giant TSMC, and 5 million from Buddhist humanitarian group the Tzu Chi Foundation.

Gou says he hopes to reach an initial target of 8 or 9 million doses delivered by the end of 2021. He says he expects two deliveries to arrive soon, including one by the end of this week.

Gou says a second delivery should arrive before the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 21. After that, he says, Taiwan should start receiving a delivery every week of around 700,000 to 800,000 vaccine doses.

Gou also says he has no plans to welcome vaccine deliveries at the airport when they arrive. He says that is because he does not want to “make a scene”.
