Taiwan extends Level 2 Alert to September 20
Taiwan will remain at Level 2 alert, but the capacity for group events continues to grow.

Health Minister Chen Shih-chung has announced that Taiwan will extend its Level 2 Alert until September 20. Chen said on Monday that since Taiwan still has untraced local cases, it’s best to continue under the current warning level.

The Level 2 Alert is the second lowest in a four-level system. It requires people to wear masks at all times outside the house except when eating or drinking. People must also continue to maintain social distancing of at least 1.5 meters and sign in whenever entering a venue.

Indoor events are capped at 80 people and outdoor gatherings cannot exceed 300 people, unless organizers apply for a special permit.

Chen also says that swimming pools and training facilities will remain open as long as they continue to follow protocol.

Taiwan Railways Administration and High Speed Rail Corporation are only selling tickets with reserved seating, meaning standing tickets are not available.

National scenic areas and tourist attractions have raised their capacity from 70% to 80% of pre-pandemic restrictions.

Chen says that karaoke clubs, bars, night clubs, dance halls, mahjong parlors, and other similar entertainment venues will remain closed during this extension of the Level 2 alert.

The Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) says it will continue to monitor trends in local and imported cases, and adjust measures accordingly in the future.

While domestic cases are gradually coming under control, the CECC is calling on the public to continue to practice good hygiene, reduce unnecessary travel, avoid crowded areas, and wear a mask at all times.
