Schools will begin administering the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to students between ages 12 and 17 beginning September 23.
The education ministry is reminding schools that they have to get written parental approval before administering vaccines to students. The ministry is also urging schools to make special arrangements for vaccinating students who have a fear of needles.
Taiwan received its first shipment of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines on September 2. The health ministry says that it will finish initial inspections of the vaccine on September 16.
Right now, the Pfizer- BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is the only vaccine approved for minors.
Children aged 12 and over not registered at any school will get a vaccination notification from the health authorities. Parents can then take their child to any of the health ministry’s partner hospitals to get vaccinated.
