A kindergarten in New Taipei City has a cluster COVID-19 cases, with at least 16 confirmed cases so far. Ten cases were confirmed on Monday, and six more on Tuesday.
The New Taipei City Government has expanded its search for people who potentially came in contact with these cases. There are 182 people in quarantine in connection with this kindergarten cluster. So far, 162 people have tested negative for COVID-19, and the remaining 20 are undergoing testing.
New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-i says that there are students at the kindergarten that also attend classes at other schools, so he has decided to suspend classes at four other local schools. This decision will impact over 2,200 (2,252) young students.
Authorities have strengthened the Level 2 alert in New Taipei City with stricter hospital visitation limits. Hou says he's concerned about the Delta variant. If a case appears in the city, restaurants must shut down indoor dining again.
It is currently unknown whether the kindergarten cluster cases are related to the Delta variant.
New Taipei City's health minister Chen Jun-chiu says that one of the kindergarten families had just returned from Egypt. PCR testing says that all members tested negative for COVID-19, but officials are still investigating the situation.
