One of Taiwan’s leading universities has opened a new center for Japan studies. National Chengchi University hosted an event to launch its new Taiwan Japan Academy on Friday.
The new academy aims to deepen and promote Japanese social science research in Taiwan and cultivate research talent.
President Tsai Ing-wen gave a pre-recorded address at the launch event, saying she hopes the academy will consolidate Japan and Taiwan’s firm friendship. Tsai says Japan and Taiwan are working together to boost research into each other’s societies and strengthen bilateral cooperation.
Japan’s Chief Representative to Taiwan, Hiroyasu Izumi, says that Taiwan and Japan’s mutual support has “cultivated a one-of-a-kind friendship, envied by the whole world”. He says cooperation between Taiwan and Japan serves to promote peace and prosperity in the region and across the world.
Radio Taiwan International President Chang Cheng also addressed attendees at the launch event. He says RTI looks forward to working with the new academy to strengthen ties between Japan and Taiwan.
