Legislature president You Si-kun says he has no desire for his party, the Democratic Progressive Party, to rule Taiwan forever. You made the remark while discussing the future of Taiwan’s democracy during a recent interview.
Speaking at the legislature on Friday, You clarified his comment, saying he spoke in terms of what was in Taiwan’s best interests, not those of his own party.
You says that in democracies around the world, power regularly changes hands between political parties. That’s why he says that he hopes power continues to change hands in Taiwan, too.
However, You says he hopes that in the future, Taiwan’s opposition parties, including the KMT, will identify with Taiwan and remain loyal to the country.
You says he hopes that his Democratic Progressive Party and opposition parties can work together in the coming legislative session to ensure the country’s safety and prosperity.
