Premier: 70% of Taiwan to get first COVID vaccine dose by late Oct.
Premier Su Tseng-chang delivers a report on the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic on Wednesday.

Premier Su Tseng-chang is predicting that 70% of Taiwan’s population will have received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose by late October.

On Wednesday, Su delivered a report to lawmakers about the government’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including the progress of Taiwan’s vaccination program.

He said that Taiwan has taken delivery of 17.3 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine doses. These include doses purchased by Taiwan’s government as well as doses purchased by private groups and doses donated to Taiwan by friendly nations.

Su said that since May, the percentage of Taiwan’s population to have received their first COVID-19 vaccine dose had grown from less than 1% to 50%. He said that 11.6 million people in Taiwan have received their first dose so far.

Su said that 60% of the population will have received their first vaccine dose by early October, and that this figure will hit 70% by the end of October. By that time, he also said that nearly 30% of Taiwan’s population will have received their second vaccine dose.
