Taiwan's newest economic stimulus voucher website is open for registrations. However, for many, the registration process was less than smooth. Even before 9:00am on Wednesday, the website had already crashed due to an overload of users.
This year, there's an incentive to register as early as possible for digital vouchers. The first four million people to apply for digital vouchers can receive a food coupon for NT$500. This is meant to help support restaurants that have suffered during the soft lockdown. Taiwan's Digital Minister Audrey Tang recorded a promotional video, encouraging applications and teaching people how to sign up for the digital vouchers.
The vouchers will be valid until the end of April 2022. Everyone who qualifies for the program will receive five vouchers worth NT$200, two worth NT$500, and three worth NT$1,000. Altogether that's NT$5,000, or around US$180, in value.
The economic affairs ministry has reassured the public that new measures are in place so that the website does not stall again. Already, over 2.8 million people have registered on the voucher website, with over 520,000 opting for the digital vouchers.
