British naval vessel HMS Richmond has passed through the Taiwan Strait. The Richmond's Twitter account announced the maneuver on Monday morning, saying the ship was “en route through the Taiwan Strait to visit Vietnam and the Vietnam People's Navy.”
Admiral Tony Radakin said in an interview with Nikkei Asia last week that the Taiwan Strait is international waters, and that any country can use the waterway.
The UK has taken steps to increase its presence in the Indo-Pacific region in recent months. Earlier this month, the HMS Richmond accompanied the British aircraft carrier, the HMS Queen Elizabeth, as it docked in Yokohama, Japan.
