Foxconn Founder Terry Gou says that half a million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine will arrive in Taiwan on Thursday.
Gou is spearheading a private sector effort to acquire and donate 15 million doses of the vaccine to Taiwan’s government.
In a post on Facebook, Gou said that currently, 1.4 million Pfizer-BioNTech doses are awaiting shipment to Taiwan. However, he says due to air cargo restrictions, that batch will be divided into three separate deliveries.
Thursday’s shipment will be the first batch of BioNTech vaccines to ship with custom labels designed specifically for Taiwan. Taiwan’s government has requested that the labels do not carry the name of BioNTech’s Chinese partner, Fosun Pharma, or the vaccine’s official name, Comirnaty.
