Taiwan has attracted NT$1.3 trillion (nearly US$47 billion) in overseas Taiwanese investments. That was the word from President Tsai Ing-wen on Tuesday as she spoke to the World Taiwanese Chambers of Commerce.
She said that 991 overseas Taiwanese companies have decided to invest in Taiwan this year. That’s as the government is offering subsidies and incentives on land, rent, and loans. It also has hired dedicated people to serve these investors as they make plans to set up businesses in Taiwan.
Last week, Taiwan applied to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP). Tsai said she hopes Taiwanese businesses around the world can work together to bring Taiwan more business opportunities.
The president said Taiwanese businesses around the world are a good partner to help Taiwan with its international relations. She said Taiwanese businesses have helped strengthen relations with other countries during the pandemic by donating money and supplies.
