The annual pre-National Day celebration on October 9 is set to take place this year at Hsinchu Air Force base.
Hsinchu Mayor Lin Chih-chien said on Thursday that Hsinchu is at the foundation of Taiwan's national defense force, as well as its manufacturing and technology industries. Lin said that Hsinchu's science park was valued at over NT$1.3 trillion (US$47 billion) last year, and that this number is expected to jump to NT$1.5 trillion (US$54 billion) this year.
Lin said that Hsinchu is a city that perfectly combines tradition and modernity, with internationally renowned high-tech and semiconductor industries, as well as the highest density of historical sites in Taiwan.
Lin said he believes that the performances on October 9 will also demonstrate the city's representation of the old and new in Taiwan, with both classical and pop musicians set to take to the stage. These include singers like Olivia Tsao, Hsieh Ming-yu, Whyte (aka ?te), and the band Sorry Youth, all of which have won Golden Melody awards for their music. Hsinchu's youth orchestra and the Hsin Lei dance troupe will also be performing at the celebration.
