President Tsai Ing-wen received her second dose of the Taiwan-made Medigen COVID vaccine on Thursday morning at National Taiwan University Hospital.

Tsai told the doctors that she didn't have any negative reaction after the first jab besides a little soreness in her arm. Tsai says that getting the second shot was just as quick and painless as the first time, and that she is proud to have this second dose added to her vaccine record card.

Vice President William Lai also received his second jab less than 30 minutes after Tsai. The whole process was streamed live over Facebook, so followers could see the two politicians and hopefully feel more comfortable getting the Medigen vaccine themselves.

Tsai and Lai received their first shots on August 23 and August 27, respectively. Health Minister Chen Shih-chung says that since both the president and vice president felt fine after the first dose, there should be no serious side effects this time either.

Tsai posted on Facebook, announcing that she had gotten her second vaccine dose, and assuring the people of Taiwan that Medigen is safe, effective, and meets scientific and medical standards. With this kind of press coverage, people are hoping that 60% of the population will have received at least one COVID vaccine dose by National Day, October 10, really giving Taiwan something to celebrate.
