A record 77 Chinese military planes flew into Taiwan's Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) on Friday and Saturday.

There were 38 Chinese aircraft that flew in on Friday, China's National Day, and 39 on Saturday. Those are the highest numbers since Taiwan began releasing records of Chinese aircraft intrusions in September 2020.

A country's ADIZ is not considered territorial airspace. However, it is the airspace in which a country identifies, locates and controls aircraft in the interest of national security.

On Saturday, the defense ministry reported 14 Shengyang J-16 and four Sukhoi SU-30 fighters, as well as two Y-8 anti-submarine warfare planes during the day and another 19 at night.  Saturday was the 11th consecutive day that China sent military aircraft into Taiwan's ADIZ.

The previous record for a daily incursion was in June when 28 Chinese military airplanes entered Taiwan's ADIZ.
