Taiwan is loosening its mask requirements for people in outdoor open spaces beginning October 5. That was the word from the Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) on Sunday. The loosening of restrictions is largely due to the successful containment of Taiwan's biggest COVID-19 outbreak that started in May.
People will still need to wear masks outdoors but they will not have to wear them in vast open spaces where social distancing is possible.
Farmers will not be required to wear masks in the field where there are few people nearby, but they must keep a mask on hand in case people appear.
People visiting spacious mountain and beach areas also do not need to wear a mask if social distancing is possible. People must however keep a mask on hand in case they do run into someone.
People visiting rivers and hot springs will still need to wear a mask.
The CECC said Taiwan's mask requirements will continue to be gradually adjusted.
