Defense ministry showcases powered exoskeleton
The ministry of defense has been working on a powered exoskeleton

Taiwan’s defense ministry spends a good chunk of money purchasing conventional war weapons every year. However, it also throws budget into developing cutting edge technology. Its latest project is a powered exoskeleton suit.

Taiwanese foot soldiers lift heavy objects with ease. These guys aren’t particularly strong, but they are getting a significant strength boost from good old technology. Around their legs is an elaborate apparatus of high tech motors and hydraulics that enhances their physical abilities.

The National Chungshan Institute of Science and Technology developed this defense ministry-backed project. It’s a powered exoskeleton meant to supplement soldiers in the field. It provides strength augmentation and increases endurance.

Defense Minister Chiu Kuo-cheng says this project is meant to bolster Taiwan’s footsoldiers and give them an edge.

The defense ministry says it will continue developing this technology and research ways to mass produce it. The defense ministry is committed to helping soldiers accomplish their mission, whether that means lending a helping hand or a high-tech power suit.
