Japan has donated another 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine to Taiwan and the shipment is expected to arrive on Wednesday. Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Joanne Ou said on Tuesday that Taiwan is very grateful for the donation, which demonstrates the strength of ties between Japan and Taiwan.

This is the sixth time that Japan has donated vaccines to Taiwan, accounting for over 4,200,000 doses, making it Taiwan’s most generous vaccine donor. Ou says that Taiwan has thanked Japan by donating 10,000 pulse oximeters and over 1,000 oxygen machines.

Presidential Office Spokesperson Xavier Chang says that Taiwan is very moved by Japan’s firm support and unwavering friendship, especially during the pandemic. He says this positive cycle of generosity and teamwork between the two countries will continue in the years to come.

Chang says that during the pandemic, the relationship between Taiwan and Japan has become a model for the rest of the world to follow in terms of diplomacy. He says that although the two countries have faced many obstacles, this has never jeopardized their commitment to work together.
