Foreign Minister Joseph Wu has met with Prague Mayor Zdeněk Hřib to discuss the friendship between Taiwan and the Czech Republic. During the meeting on Wednesday, Wu thanked the Czech Republic for donating 30,000 Moderna vaccine doses to Taiwan in August.
Wu and Hřib also discussed ways the two countries could collaborate on issues like public health and education. Hřib said that Taiwan and the Czech Republic have worked hard to encourage cultural exchange between teenagers in the two countries.
Meanwhile, Wu said that Taiwan has established a scholarship program with the Czech Republic so that more students have the opportunity to study abroad and develop an appreciation for each other’s culture. Years ago, Hřib himself came to Taiwan as an exchange student, which cemented his motivation to work with Taiwan.
Since then, Hřib has supported Taiwan's bid to join the World Health Organization and returned to Taiwan to learn more about Taiwan's science and education sectors. Both Hřib and Wu remarked on the stability and strength of the growing ties between their respective nations.
