COVID-19 (10/28): Taiwan extends Level 2 Alert; no new local cases
Taiwan's COVID-19 case numbers for October 28, 2021.

Taiwan reported no new local cases of COVID-19 on Thursday. However, Taiwan  did report six more imported cases among people arriving in the country. There were no new deaths reported.

The six imported cases of COVID-19 on Thursday include travelers from Japan, the United States, the UK, Kyrgyzstan, and Mongolia.

Authorities also announced that Taiwan has now given a first COVID-19 vaccine dose to 70% of the population. On top of that, 30% have been fully vaccinated.

However, Health Minister Chen Shih-chung also announced an extension to the Level 2 COVID-19 Alert in place across Taiwan. That means certain restrictions will remain in place until at least November 15.

That said, Chen says authorities will relax some rules starting November 2. There will be no more limits on the size of gatherings or crowd control measures at large events. Passengers on the rail network will also be allowed to eat and drink in carriages.

Bars and nightclubs still have to remain closed unless they meet certain criteria.
