Video: European Parliament delegation arrives in Taiwan

A delegation from the European Parliament has arrived in Taiwan for a three-day visit.

Until today, Taiwan had never received such a delegation before. Thirteen members of the European Parliament’s committee charged with combatting foreign threats to EU democracy became the first delegation of sitting European Parliament members to step on Taiwanese soil.

Their visit comes amid a period of warming Taiwan-EU ties. According to the Presidential Office, this year alone has seen the European Parliament pass twelve pro-Taiwan resolutions. And it’s been just two weeks since the parliament’s “EU-Taiwan Political Relations and Cooperation” report, which has made the first-ever formal policy recommendations about enhancing Taiwan-EU ties.

While in Taiwan, the parliamentarians will meet with President Tsai Ing-wen, Premier Su Tseng-chang, Digital Minister Audrey Tang, and Taiwanese researchers studying fake news.
