The Central Epidemic Command Center says it has approved the labor ministry’s decision to allow foreign workers to enter Taiwan once again. The ministry says the decision will go into effect no later than at the end of this month.
Central Epidemic Command Center head Chen Shih-chung says that while the government will lift the entry ban, he still recommends that the labor ministry should limit the number of entries during the Lunar New Year holiday. That’s because authorities expect at least 40,000 Taiwanese nationals to return home for the holidays. Chen says he believes there will be many more arrivals than that over the holiday.
In preparation for the influx of travelers, the Central Epidemic Command Center has recently changed quarantine rules for arriving passengers. They still have to undergo a 14-day period of isolation, but they only have to spend the initial ten days at a quarantine hotel or a government facility. They can then return home for the last four days.
