President Tsai Ing-wen is encouraging Taiwanese people to head out and discover the beauty that lies in their own backyard.
Speaking Friday at the opening of the annual Taipei International Travel Fair, Tsai said that Taiwanese people can take advantage of the four-day event—and the government’s COVID-19 economic stimulus vouchers—to book a domestic getaway.
Tsai spoke about her own recent experience taking a group of CNN journalists to discover the sites and food of Taipei’s Wanhua District. She said that the journalists later made a report based on their experiences, giving Taiwan’s tourism potential more international exposure.
Tsai also praised Taiwan’s vitality in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. She said that despite the pandemic, this year’s travel fair has attracted 800 booths, with more than 40 countries and territories represented. She also said that the central government and local governments across Taiwan have themselves put together more than 30 booths, offering even more diverse and exciting themed pavilions than last year.
