Taiwan chipmakers respond to US government info request
The US Department of Commerce has asked global semiconductor companies for information that may shine a light on a worldwide shortage

Several Taiwanese chipmakers have submitted information to the US Department of Commerce ahead of a Monday deadline. US trade officials requested information from global semiconductor firms in September on the causes of chip shortages affecting the auto industry.

According to Economics Minister Wang Mei-hua, chip companies could choose whether or not they wanted to supply US officials with the relevant information. Wang says that, to her knowledge, rival companies in South Korea did not comply with the United States’ request.

Wang says that her ministry is working closely with local chipmakers to understand the situation. She says that each firm has practiced prudence while handling customer information.

Wang says due to the private nature of the information handed over to the US, the Taiwanese government will not press companies to reveal any details.
