Taiwan’s defense ministry has laid out four strategies to upgrade Taiwan’s military capabilities. That’s according to the latest National Defense Report published on Tuesday. The report was released in Chinese and English for the first time.
The defense ministry said the rapid growth of China’s military has posed serious challenges to Taiwan’s security. China has increased its aggression and threats to Taiwan through targeted actions against the nation, such as frequent incursions into Taiwan’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ), cognitive warfare, and cyber warfare.
The National Defense Report stated four strategies to enhance Taiwan’s military capabilities. They include becoming more autonomous in national defense through more research and development of weapons and displaying a determination to defend Taiwan. Taiwan also needs to acquire new weapons such as the recent purchases of F-16Vs and Harpoon missiles. Taiwan also needs to strengthen its combat training and strengthen its military reserves.
The defense ministry also said that future war strategies will evolve from being labor-intensive to using digitized systems.
