The foreign ministry has thanked US Secretary of State Antony Blinken for recent comments he made reiterating the United States’ commitment to Taiwan’s security.

While speaking about Taiwan during a recent forum, Blinken repeated the United States’ commitment to Taiwan’s defense under the Taiwan Relations Act. He said that these commitments include ensuring Taiwan’s ability to defend itself.

Blinken said that the US and other countries believe that any unilateral move to change the status quo around Taiwan is a threat to peace and security. He said that therefore, if the status quo is broken, the US and its allies will act.

The foreign ministry says that Taiwan will continue to deepen cooperation with the US and other countries that share its values in order to maintain peace, stability, and prosperity in the Taiwan Strait and surrounding region.
