The Central Epidemic Command Center has announced that there will be a new quarantine plan in place for travelers coming during the Lunar New Year. Health minister Chen Shih-chung delivered the news on Thursday afternoon.

According to these regulations, travelers must have received two COVID-19 vaccine doses approved by the WHO or Taiwan at least two weeks prior to arrival. Chen calls these new rules the [7+7+7] plan, because visitors must spend their first seven days in a quarantine hotel, then seven days quarantining in their family home, and finally seven days of self-health management.

Chen says that visitors must take PCR tests after arriving in Taiwan, both one day before moving from the quarantine hotel and one day before ending the home quarantine period. In addition, visitors will have to take a COVID-19 rapid test ten days after arrival.

Chen says that when quarantining at home, visitors must have their own rooms to stay in. No one besides the residents should be allowed into the home during this time. All family members in the household must have already been fully vaccinated for at least fourteen days. The family members should also carry out self-health management during this time, and must pay for COVID-19 rapid tests on the third and seventh day after the visitor arrives at the residence.
